What is The SlowStyle Method?

It’s something we accidentally developed over the last decade working with nearly 350 private styling clients, and thousands of men online through our courses and guides.

A way of approaching a wardrobe and style for people that have no interest in chasing trends and appreciate well made things that last.

Here’s what we believe (consider this a bit of a manifesto)

01
SlowStyle over fast fashion

We'll call out a brand for making bad clothes and charging people too much. It's also why we have a company policy of never taking sponsorships from clothing companies. Ever.

We won't take a client to Zara. We don't source clothes from Temu. The world has enough junk. While it’s not perfect, we believe being more intentional with what we buy and who we spend on is better than doing nothing.

Good style, like good food or good music, lasts when it's done right. Our average client returns for a wardrobe refresh after three years. If you need us every season, we're not doing our jobs.

02
Fit will solve 90% of your style problems

Fit is to style as taste is to food.

A well fitting white t-shirt and pair of blue jeans is infinitely more stylish than a designer suit that’s the wrong size.

03
Buy the best you can afford
(and take care of it)

My go-to winter coat is a dark navy, slightly oversized wool coat. I’ve had it for nearly a decade now. The top two buttons have popped off and I’ve yet made time to sew them back on. I close it using the third button, which creates a really cool, but impractical when it’s windy, relaxed closure. I always get compliments on it and get asked where it’s from. And people are always surprised it’s from Uniqlo. I bought it for $150.

I could replace it. And in all honesty, if I hired myself as a stylist, I would tell me to replace it. But it still functions. I like how it looks. So I’m going to keep using it until I can’t anymore instead of spending a few thousand to “upgrade” it.

Having a wardrobe that lasts a long time isn’t always about spending the most on the best, but simply taking care of the things you have.

Take care of your things and your things will take care of you.

04
Buy once, cry once

Almost all of our clients have one thing in common: they’re not “fashion” guys. They haven’t heard of half the brands we introduce them to.

And at the end of our time together, they’re still not “experts.”

But they know how clothes should fit them. They know what brands work for them. What colors and styles look great on them.

They start throwing together great outfits.

They often continue developing their style on their own because they know a bit more than they used to. Which makes it easier. Which makes it fun.

05
Knowledge is the best style hack

On another note, I recently heard someone say that if they can’t afford to buy it twice, they spend to buy it once.

It reminded me of the more direct “buy once, cry once.”

Great ceramic dinnerware will always cost more than paper plates, but you only need to buy them once.
